Kellie Lawrence is an abstract mixed media artist living in Houston, Texas. Originally from Scotland, Kellie has always been a maker, experimenting with many mediums and crafts over the years. After a career in oil and gas, Kellie returned to full time painting, attending the Art League and Glassell School studio classes. Her work is mainly abstract with unique embroidery and mixed media elements.
The Art
I am an abstract painter, working mainly in acrylics. I love the abstract expressionists, and have a devotion to hard edge and geometric art. But lately I have been experimenting with color and fluidity and the landscape around us. I take inspiration from the color, the patterns in nature particularly rock formations, but all my work has a foundation in the landscapes I have had the pleasure to explore. My science brain gets excited by the process of making and I have always been influenced by my geological background and in the natural patterns and textures we find in the world.
